Cold-formed steel (CFS) is the common term for steel products shaped by cold-working processes carried out near room temperature, such as rolling, pressing, stamping, bending, etc. Stock bars and sheets of cold-rolled steel (CRS) are commonly used in all areas of manufacturing. The terms are opposed to hot-formed steel and hot-rolled steel.
Cold-formed steel, especially in the form of thin gauge sheets, is commonly used in the construction industry for structural or non-structural items such as columns, beams, joists, studs, floor decking, built-up sections and other components.
There are a range of products for cladding the exterior of the building. These included brick, weatherboard, and sheet products – all with excellent thermal properties. On the interior it’s possible to use a range of products including gypsum boards. View a range of assemblies here.
Question: I am wondering on the main differences in South African and UK building regulations ?
Answer: There are numerous differences and it is impossible to keep up to date with changes in all countries. Regions in a country may also differ, and it is best to work closely with local authorities and manufacturers.
Question: I am wanting to buy prefab or steel frame from SA but want to know it will be ok.
Answer: Although we do not have personal experience in this, we would not recommend it at all for numerous reasons. Manufactures in the UK operate with the same equipment and, when taking shipping and other costs in account, it would be better and more economical to source locally.
Question: What should my next step be ?
Answer: We would be happy to assist in finding a competent manufacturer in your area. Please communicate via the email info@AZ.co.ZA
